Disconnect Supervision
Disconnect Supervision refers to signaling that tells a telephony device, such as an Autodialer, when a remote hangup has occured. Meaning when the customer has hung up their telephone. This signal tells the Dialer that it is now OK for it to hang up the local end of the call.
A common issue that is due to lack of Disconnect Supervision on phone lines is that the lines stay active, even though the customer has hung up their phone. If the phone lines are not sending a disconnect signal, the Dialer will not know that it should hang up the local end of the call.
The standard signal to indicate remote disconnect is a Loop Current Drop. A drop in voltage that signifies the far end has hung up their phone and should be followed by the Dialer going back On-Hook on that port.
However, many lines such as PBX lines, VoIP lines, Centrex Lines, etc, do not provide standard disconnect signaling. Instead they signify a remote disconnect with a standard North American, Fast Busy Signal. If this is the case, we can enable a feature on the SpitFire software to listen for this signal and hang up when it occurs.
