The answering machine sensitivity setting for SpitFire Predictive can be adjusted by opening and editing the Campaign INI file associated with a particular Campaign window.
This parameter, by default is set to 4 when the software is first installed but a setting of 4 typically means that their will be very few answering machines that are actually detected by the Dialer. So adjusting it is typically advised, especially if you are dialing consumer phone numbers (not businesses).
An article explaining how answering machine detection actually works can be found HERE.
Adjusting the AM value in the Campaign INI file
Note: Always close ALL Campaign windows before making changes to this configuration file.
1. First we need to go to the C:\SPD folder on the Dialer. Begin this by double-clicking on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and you will get this window:
2. Double-click on the Local Disk (C:) drive and then on the SPD folder.
3. In the SPD folder there is a configuration file(ini) for each Campaign and that is what needs to be opened and edited.
4. Once the file is open in Notepad, look for AM=[number value]. This is what needs to be changed to adjust sensitivity.
An article explaining how answering machine sensitivity works can be found HERE.
5. Change this number to 1 to set it to the most sensitive setting and ensure the best detection of answering machines. Setting it to a higher number like 4 will mean much more of the calls that get transferred to your agents will actually be answering machines or pre-recorded messages.
6. Now we must save the file and close Notepad. Click File->Save.
7. Now just close Notepad and you can close the other window that was opened in the earlier steps. You can then start up our Campaign as normal and the new setting will be in effect.
