Dialing Local Exchanges in SPD Pro

Introduction

The SpitFire Campaign software recognizes the difference between local and long distance numbers by comparing the first 3 digits of a phone number (the area code) in the list against the settings in the Options-->Preferences-->Line Settings tab.

In the example above we have defined the area codes 214 and 972 as being local, 10 digit, dialing. This means that when the Campaign comes across a 972 or 214 area code, the software will dial the entire 10 digit number but will not dial a 1 before that.
The Local Area Code(s) 7 field would define any local area codes that require them to be dialed with just the seven digit phone number. This was more common years ago but is less common as most local area codes require 10 digit dialing today. However there are still some smaller area codes that are dialed this way.

Any area codes not listed in either of those two fields will be dialed with whatever is in the Long Distance Prefix field. In most cases, this is a 1.

With some area codes, the location of the phone numbers determines if it is dialed with a 1 or without. Until recently, however, the SpitFire Campaign software would only be able to dial the area code one way. With SPD Pro version 1.2.162 or later, it is possible to define local area code and prefixes(972-xxx) that can be dialed with 10 digit dialing and the Dialer will dial the rest of the area code(s) with a 1. So if the various prefixes that require local, 10 digit dialing are known, those can be programmed into the Campaign settings.

Adding Local Area Code Exchanges

1. As this requires the Campaign configuration (.ini) file to be edited, it is necessary to stop the Campaign and close it completely.

2. Next browse to the C:\SPD\ folder and look for the Campaign configuration files. Double-click on the 1.ini file to open the configuration file for Campaign 1.

3. This will open the file in Notepad. Press CTRL+F on your keyboard to bring up the search box. Type localexchange in Find box and click Find Next.

4. This will bring you to that parameter in the configuration file. Enter the six digit area code and exchange numbers after the equals sign and separate them with commas.

5. When done entering those into the configuration file, click File-->Save and close the Notepad window. Repeat steps 1-4 for each Campaign configuration file.

6. Next, you must remove the area code that may be in the Campaign under Options-->Preferences-->Lines. In this case, since we have defined a 972 area code as having several local exchanges, we will remove that area code from the Local Area Code(s) 10 field so that the Dialer will dial a 1+ rule for that area code unless it also matches the defined exchanges we entered in step 4.

7. After clicking Save at the bottom of the window, close the Campaign and open it back up again to save the changes.

Now, in the example above, all 972 phone numbers will be dialed with a 1 unless they are the area code and prefixes listed in step 4 above.
